Google Keep Tasks Integration: What You Need to Know!

Google Keep’s Reminders are getting a new home, but not everyone is happy about it! The tech giant is gradually transitioning reminders to Google Tasks, a move that sparked mixed reactions among users. But here’s the catch: this update might not be as simple as it seems.

A Slow Rollout: Google announced the migration last month, but it’s taking its time. As of now, only a handful of accounts have received the update, leaving many users waiting. The company aims to complete the process by the end of 2025, but will it be a smooth transition?

The Reminder Makeover: When the update hits your device, the bell icon in Keep notes will save reminders directly to Google Tasks. The options for timing remain the same, but there’s a twist: location-based reminders are out! Home, Work, and Pick a place options are gone, with location data now residing in the task description.

Accessing Reminders: After setting a reminder, you’ll find it in the Google Tasks app or Google Calendar with a ‘From Keep’ label. Tapping this badge opens the original note for easy reference. Keep’s ‘Reminders’ page remains accessible, but deleting reminders has a new twist: you can remove the reminder, the note, or both.

Notification Changes: A significant shift is in notifications. Keep will no longer alert you of reminders; that’s Calendar and Tasks’ job now. Ensure you have these apps installed to stay notified.

Editing Reminders: While you can edit dates and times across Keep, Tasks, or Calendar, editing reminder titles is trickier. Changing the Keep note title won’t update the reminder title, requiring edits in Tasks or Calendar.

The Fine Print: The migration has some nuances. Keep reminders exceeding the task limit won’t migrate, and long reminders get truncated. Repeating tasks have adjusted schedules, and tasks beyond the year 3000 are moved to 2900. And here’s where it gets controversial—reminders older than a year are placed in an ‘Old Google Keep Reminders’ list, which might surprise some users.

This update is a significant change for Google Keep users. While it streamlines reminders, it also introduces complexities. What do you think about this migration? Is it a welcome improvement or a step towards confusion? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
